A Trauma Informed Approach

How does trauma-informed ABA differ from traditional ABA?

Trauma informed ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) therapy is an approach that recognizes and addresses the impact of trauma on individuals receiving ABA interventions. It involves modifying traditional ABA methods to be more sensitive and responsive to the unique needs of individuals who have experienced trauma.

A trauma informed approach to ABA focuses on client assent, adapting programming to avoid potential triggers, increasing opportunities for clients to make choices, and monitoring emotional responses to services.

Seeing through this "lens" allows our therapists to modify their interventions and see beyond the immediate trigger of a behavior taking into account the full history and learned behaviors of the person. Trauma Informed ABA provides a compassionate, empathetic, and nurturing environment to teach new skills to both children and parents alike. It is impossible to get through life unscathed and we all have emotional wounds that when overcome, allow for growth and development.
